The YONEX Finnish International 2024, held from 25 to 28 April, proved to be a fruitful tournament for Finnish players, who excelled on their home turf.
In the women’s doubles, the Finnish pair Pihla Mäkelä/ Helena Santalahti secured a bronze medal. The mixed doubles saw Anton Kaisti/ Oona Tapola advance to the finals, earning a well-deserved runner-up position, while Julius Von Pfaler/ Jenny Vähäsarja also claimed a bronze medal in the same category. Finnish young talent Nella Nyqvist, a standout in the women’s singles, reached the finals with a series of convincing straight-game victories, even defeating seeded players along the way. Despite a valiant effort in a three-game final, Nyqvist finished as runner-up to France’s third-seeded Anna Tatranova.
Another French competitor also had a notable performance – Grégoire Deschamp, the sixth seed, took the silver in the men’s singles. Estonia also made a significant impact, particularly in doubles events, taking home four medals, three of which were in men’s doubles.
