Among the many big triumphs, Katharina Nilges emerged as a standout performer. Her journey today commenced with an upset against top seed Maria Koragina, Ukraine, in the Round of 32. The German player triumphed in a thrilling encounter, 21-17, 20-22, 21-16. Nilges faced yet another formidable challenge later in the day in the Round of 16, squaring off against tenth-seeded Barbora Bursová, Czech Republic.
Nilges demonstrated her strengths once again in a tough match. "It’s such a nice feeling. I’m so proud of myself because most of the time I’m not so proud of myself and when I win, I think that it wasn’t that good but now I was just proud. It feels good," Nilges shared after victory in three games, 17-21, 21-17, 21-18.
The camaraderie among players from different teams has been felt throughout the event as fellow athletes rallied behind their compatriots. Nilge notes how the support from the stands fuelled her determination. "They really support me. It feels just good. I had a hard match, but I knew my team was behind me. It gives so much power."
