The 2023 European U17 Championships continue with exhilarating performances in the individual event.

As the team event reached its conclusion on Tuesday morning, the focus shifted to the individual event, with the first two rounds taking centre stage over the past two days.

Among the happy faces in the hall, the German fifth seeds, Eva Stommel and Meline Zeisig, showcased triumphed over Scotland’s Iona Muir and Deepti Vijayakumar with a score of 21-19 21-16 in the Round of 64. Stommel expressed her joy, stating, "I think we performed really well. We were very nervous at the beginning but then we attacked."

The event serves as a showcase of emerging European talents, with top-seeded Tiago Berenguer of Portugal standing out in the men's singles. At the age of 15, Berenguer is already making waves. Following his resounding victory against Slovakia’s Alex Petrovic, 21-5, 21-14, in the Round of 64, the reigning European U15 champion shared his goals for the week: "Starting with a win is always great. It’s always my goal to give my best. Of course, I want the title but coming to the U17 it’s a lot harder than last year’s so I cannot really say because I have a lot of difficult opponents. I’ll just try my best and see how far I can get."

The Round of 32 and Round of 16 promise even more great clashes. Matches are set to start at 9am (EEST) on Thursday 10 August and you can tune in to badmintoneurope.tv to follow all matches live.
