After everyone went home safely, it is time to reflect on this 2021 edition of the RSL BEC Summer School.
This historic event organised by BEC since 1982 was successfully delivered once again, thanks to a great team and committed and motivated participants!
Great event with exceptional participants
Six staff coaches took care of 48 players. This was the first time that BEC organised this event for U15 players, and they seemed to enjoy it thoroughly, just as much as the older predecessors. It has also been a chance to foster their thirst for knowledge as it has even motivated some of them to study English harder in class, being it sometimes a challenge for some of them to understand the exercises.
The three experienced tutors were very satisfied with the general level of the 20 BWF/BEC Coach Education Level 2 participants, who all passed the course. It can’t go left unsaid that national coaches as well as former high-level players took part in this course and showed a real commitment to further improving their coaching skills and knowledge. It is also a golden opportunity for them to be able to share their own practices and experiences with other coaches.
A more than satisfactory week
Altogether, 24 countries were represented during this event, which is also a great source of satisfaction to Justine Cammal, BEC Development and High Performance Officer.
-After the exceptionally difficult year that 2020 has been, when the Summer School was cancelled, it was of utmost importance for us to ensure everyone’s safety. This event requires players to play against other opponents from many different countries, to interact with coaches and also with the candidates to the BWF/BEC Level 2 Coach Education course, so we needed to guarantee that our group was safe. I think that the required test before arrival and a quick test when arriving on location allowed us to deliver the event with as much interaction as possible between the participants, Cammal stated.
Matevz Srekl, General Secretary of the Badminton Association of Slovenia, is really happy that everything went smoothly and that no participant tested positive. Even in those difficult times we showed that we can organise such an event. Of course, we needed more time as to, for example, organise the testing on arrival and before departure.
