Latvia International 2020 will be the first elite tournament to be played since the All England Open 2020 in March.

The tournament will take place Jelgava, Latvia from 28th to 30th of August.

Helina Rüütel, 23, is one of the players going to Latvia to play the first tournament in a very long time. In the tournament the Estonian is seeded first in the women’s doubles with Kati-Kreet Marran and the mixed doubles, she and Mihkel Laanes is second seeded. Asking Rüütel what she is looking forward to the most about being back on court and playing again, she says:

- For me the break without competitions is about a year so it is a long time. The thing I miss the most, is the feeling when you are on court playing hard match and you are really tired, but at the same time you are really enjoying what you are doing.

Hoping to defend the title

Rüütel and Marran have won the women’s doubles title at the Latvia International the last two years and they are hoping to defend it again this year.

- My main goal is to stay healthy, as I have not played a real match after my knee injury. But of course, I would like to defend the women’s doubles tilte and win my first international medal in mixed doubles.
