Badminton Finland turns 65 today! As one of Badminton Europe´s founders back in 1967, the federation has grown and developed tremendously along the years.
Badminton Finland currently has 6,862 registered players and 116 clubs. The federation is led by its President, Mr. Tarmo Pipatti and General Secretary, Mr. Mika Heinonen.
From the President
- Badminton Finland will celebrate its 65th year on the road. We will visit our clubs and spread best practices of co-operation to different parts of Finland. This way we will strengthen the clubs and make sure that talented players have possibilities to go for their goals.
- We also have high hopes for the Olympic and Paralympic qualification periods that will take our players to their roadshows when trying to secure their places for the 2020 Games in Tokyo. All in all 2019 will be very exiting year for Badminton Finland, expressed Pipatti.
Tokyo 2020
During the Olympic and Paralympic qualification periods, several Finnish players to look out for are;
Men´s and women´s singles:
Kalle Koljonen (WR86), Eetu Heino (WR95) and Airi Mikkela (WR88)
Para-badminton men´s and women´s singles:
Thomas Puska (WR9), Harri Isomaeki (WR27), Markus Lehto (WR37), Timo Villanen (WR48), Antti Kaerki (WR56), Heidi Manninen (WR24), and Mirka Seuina Rautakoski (WR31).
Besides focusing on clubs´ co-operations and improving the level of their elite athletes, Badminton Finland also contributes to European badminton this year by organizing several activities, namely the Finnish Open which took place in Vantaa from 4th – 7th April, the FZ FORZA Finnish Youth which will take place in Espoo from 25th – 27th October and hosting the 4th B4ALL Meeting for inclusive badminton from 18th
– 20th November 2019.
This is the fifth edition of the ´Member Association Milestone´ initiative this year. Stay tuned for the following editions throughout 2019.
