Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) would like to wish Swiss Badminton, a happy 65th anniversary.

Swiss Badminton is one of the BEC founders and was founded in 1954. The federation has 13,000 registered players and 265 clubs to date. Based in the ´Haus de Sports´ in Ittigen, the team from Swiss Badminton is working tirelessly in organizing tournaments, Shuttle Time courses and growing their fan base, just to name a few.

A bit about the World Championships
Simone Ramsauer, General Secretary of Swiss Badminton is delighted to welcome everyone to Basel.

- Swiss Badminton is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year – a special year for our federation, as we will be celebrating this milestone by welcoming the whole badminton world in Basel for the 2019 Total BWF World Championships and Para-Badminton World Championships. We are looking forward to celebrate this big badminton event yet unseen parallel event, where able-bodied and para-badminton players are coming together to dispute the most important event of the season at the same time and in the same venue with fans from all over the world.

- These “para”-llel World Championships are not only a novelty in sports history, they also provide a great opportunity to promote the fast, dynamic and powerful sport that badminton is, in Switzerland. Our national players are very much looking forward to playing this meaningful event in front of a home crowd and we hope to inspire the next generation of players to seek to do likewise in the future.

- Under the motto “All in for Basel 2019”, we are organizing different activities, like mass sport tournaments and Shuttle Time school tournaments, to engage sport fans as well as students all over the country into partaking in the joyful anticipation that leads us to this year’s big events, Ramsauer added.

Successful tournament series
With the tournament series #Allin4Basel2019, the World Championships was promoted at grassroots, university and non-licensed tournaments. More than 20 tournaments were organized and about 650 participants can now experience the world elite in Basel for free.

The tournament series was a complete success. Around 40 classes organized Shuttle Time tournaments and four regional finals were held. The participating schools received free tickets and will be sending around 1,000 kids to the World Championships 2019 in Basel. But that's not all: Swiss Badminton wants to build on this year's school project success and continue the series in the years to come.

This is the fourth edition of the ´Member Association Milestone´ initiative this year. Stay tuned for the following editions throughout 2019.
