The Semi-Finals of the Canadian Open took place overnight and we are down to our final European representatives with just the Danish Men’s Doubles pair of Mathias Boe and Mads Conrad-Petersen making it to finals day in the Super 100 event.

Boe and Petersen somewhat upset the odds in their Semi-Final victory as well. To reach the final the Danes beat the well-established pair of Lu Ching Yao and Hung Po Han (Chinese Tapei) 21-14, 21-16, despite the Tapei pair being seeded 3
rd for the event, compared to Danes 8th.

The victory over the Chinese Tapei pair has set up an enticing final against the unseeded Japenese pair of Hiroki Okamura and Masayuki Ondera who came through an hour-long matchup with their compatriots Keiichiro Matusi and Yoshonori Takeuchi, 14-21, 23-21, 21-16.

Deprez’ impressive run comes to an end

Germany’s Fabienne Deprez’ run in Calgary has come to an end at the Semi-Final stage.

The German has upset the odds to get this far but just did not have enough to get past her Korean opponent An Se Young.

Deprez fought hard but eventually fell short with a 21-17, 21-12 defeat to the 5
th seed but she’ll still be proud of her performance in the event which should see her rise up the rankings.

Gicquel and Delrue fall short

It was also a disappointing day for the French pair of Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue after they lost their Semi-Final to Ko Sung Hyun and Eom Hye Won (Korea).

Gicquel and Delrue were the only seeded side left in the event but were beaten in straight games by the unseeded Koreans, 21-18, 21-16.

That makes it two finals in a row where the French pair have fallen short after their European games defeat to Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith (England) last weekend.
