Toma Junior Popov has entered the top 60 in last week’s men’s singles world ranking list, reaching his career best result. The current world no. 57 shared his thoughts and talked about his goals for the next year.

-I feel very well about being in top 60. I’m reaching the higher level step by step so this is proving that I’m working on the right way.

In 2018, Popov became a winner of 5 tournaments, of which two were Future series (Hellas International and Latvia International), one International Series (Bulgarian Open) and two International Challenge (Spanish International and Czech Open). With a lot of ranking points received, Popov’s aim to be in top 60 was achieved earlier than expected:

-Last June I had a meeting with the coaches and my aim was to reach this ranking position in March 2019 but I reached it three months before, so it’s perfect!

Popov’s plans for the next year include French Nationals in the beginning of February followed by Spain Masters and Orleans Masters.

-I have to make results there to qualify for the European Games, says Popov.
Other changes
Denmark’s Anders Antonsen, Rasmus Gemke, Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus and Jan O Jorgensen have all moved one spot up standing on positions no. 18, no. 21, no. 25 and no. 26 respectively.

Italian International runner up Yvonne Li (Germany) is standing on position no. 45 after moving eight spots up. Winner of the same tournament – Julie Dawall Jakobsen (Denmark) has climbed four spots up to occupy position no. 61.
