A successful Women in Badminton Coaching Conference has been held in Vejen, Denmark.

As chair of Badminton Europe's women in badminton working group I was very proud to introduce our first coaching conference during the 2013 BEC Summer School. The presentations looked at how the position of young female athletes and female coaches can be improved within Europe.

We had three fantastic speakers, Steve Gunn of GB rowing (pictured), Thomas Engholm of BestOnCourt and Olympian and former Dutch National Champion Judith Meulindijks. Though each speakers approached the topic slightly differently they were united on one key point: that women are different from men but that this was not a bad thing. On the contrary, the speakers were merely identifying that these differences were something that needed to be understood and embraced for our female talent to be facilitated to meet their full potential.

I hope all the attendees enjoyed the morning as much as I did and that they found it a useful opportunity to learn from a range of experienced persons within female sport.

My thanks must go to my fellow working group members, Badminton Europe, the Badminton World Federation and the Vejen Badminton Klub. This was a true team effort for which I am very grateful to have been a part of."
