Tomorrow, the 19th Victor Dutch International 2018 begins, taking us a quarter of the way through the BWF International Series calendar for 2018.
Aspiring players looking to climb the ranks will fight for the $10,000 prize money pot and a spot on the podium in VELO Hall in Wateringen, Netherlands.
Expect to see plenty of European players competing this year, taking several of the top spots in the seeded entry list, with some Asian interest too as Malaysia, Israel, China and India demonstrate the depth of their national players.
Toby Penty, second seed from England, is Europe’s highest ranked player in the Men’s Singles, and Denmark’s Julie Dawall Jakobsen enters the Women’s Singles draw as first seed! Meanwhile, European players will be looking to dominate all three of the doubles disciplines, as the seeded entry list is dominated by the likes of Russia, Germnay, France and Sweden.
One more hurdle before the 2018 European Championships
- This tournament is for us a preparation for the upcoming European championship in Spain, says Konstantin Abramov
Russia’s Abramov, along with partner Alexandr Zinchenko will be looking to for a repeat of last year’s Swedish International where the pair won Gold after defeating Richard Eidestedt and Nico Ruponen in a close fought final! Abramov and Zinchenko will head into the draw as first seed in the Men’s Doubles and like many of the players attending, will be using the tournament as excellent preparation for the continental stage at the 2018 Europeans Championships in Huelva at the end of this month.
