England's Gabby White and Alex Langley defeated team-mates and top seeds Helena Lewczynska and Hayley Rogers 21-11 21-19 to win the women's doubles title at the 47th Portuguese International in Caldas da Rainha today.
England players were competing in all three doubles finals but Marcus Ellis and Scotland partner Paul Van Rietvelde went down in the men's doubles against Croatia's Zvonimir Durkinjak and Denmark's Nikolaj Overgaard.The Anglo-Scottish pair lost the first game 21-12 and were edged out
22-20 in the second.
Ellis and White, who were each contesting their second final, were up against Durkinjak and Stasa Poznanovic in the mixed doubles finwhich ended the championships programme. And in the longest of the five finals Ellis and White won a tense contest 21-17 15-21 24-22 after 64 minutes.
Dieter Domke won an all German-affair in the men's singles against teammate Lukas Schmidt. And the 5000 Dollars event saw a surprising result in the women's singles as Beatriz Corrales upsets favourite and top seed Linda Zechiri of Bulgaria in two games.
