In our November edition of the ´Women in the Spotlight´, Kaity shared her para-badminton journey with BEC on how she got involved with para-badminton, what excites her most when coaching para-badminton and what are her goals for Scottish para-badminton.

Besides coaching, Kaity is now the World Championships Development Officer at Badminton Scotland. She started in May and her role is to put in place and monitor development initiatives relating to the World Championships legacy plan. Part of her other responsibilities at Badminton Scotland are:

• Writes and delivers the Young Sports Leader course (14-18 yrs)
• Supports local authorities with their Big Hit programme
• Leads the disability volunteer programme for the 2017 TOTAL BWF World Championships

In addition to her commitment with Badminton Scotland, Kaity still finds time to participate in para-badminton activities organized by Badminton Europe and Badminton World Federation (BWF). She presented to at two BEC Para-Badminton Education Courses which were held in Veenendaal (2015) and Beek (2016). Slightly before the education course in Beek this year, she was at Dubai for the BWF Para-Badminton Workshop, delivering BWF Shuttle Time.

At the end of her interview with BEC, Kaity mentioned ´We need female role models to encourage ladies to continue being active around badminton´. As the female participation is low in badminton, BEC works towards increasing it and one of the initiative is to offer the Women in Badminton Scholarships yearly.

These scholarships are to promote the participation of women in badminton around Europe and to provide opportunities for interested ladies to participate at different BEC events and activities.
