Bulgaria delivered a Regional Project in close cooperation with Romania and North Macedonia.

The project was delivered in Primorsko, a seaside town in southeastern Bulgaria, from 20 to 23 July. This Regional Project will be continuing in 2024.

Part of the project was to deliver an AirBadminton tournament in Bulgaria and share knowledge to duplicate the concept, to deliver competitions in Romania and North Macedonia in 2024 as well.

Bulgaria managed to gather 78 participants in total for the competition. While most participants were from Bulgaria, there were also some players and coaches from Romania and North Macedonia. “Here in Bulgaria, we have many beaches, green areas, and parks where we can play AirBadminton together. I’m happy to exchange experiences with specialists from other countries in our region,” Aleksandar Peshev, coach from Bulgaria said.

Before the competition, the participants from Romania, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria got familiar with everything related to AirBadminton — such as rules and how to build and deliver an AirBadminton competition. “This is a good opportunity to develop AirBadminton in my country and in the Balkan area. There are some different rules as compared to badminton, and the triples discipline is the real fun part of this game,” Dorel Badiu, coach from Romania stated.

This time, there were three coaches from Bulgaria, three coaches from Romania, and two coaches from North Macedonia taking part in the project, all hoping to develop AirBadminton further in their region, such as Kire Naumov, a coach from Macedonia. “We are very happy that we have this opportunity because we want to develop more badminton activities in our country. We want to involve more kids and adults in badminton and AirBadminton. I’d like to thank Badminton Europe so that we could participate in this Regional Project.”
