Badminton Europe along with the Spanish Badminton Federation is pleased to announce that the 2022 European U15 Championships will be going to the Spanish Mediterranean island of Ibiza.

The tournament will take place 21-24 September at the Pavelló Sa Blanca Dona, a multi-purpose sports hall with a capacity for 2,000 seated spectators.

Players born in 2008 or later are eligible to participate in the 2022 European U15 Championships and the tournament will give a glimpse of the very best young emerging talent on the continent.

Previous medallists include Thom Gicquel (MS Bronze 2014), Arnaud Merkle (MD Bronze 2014), Alexandra Bøje (WS & XD Gold 2014), Christo Popov (MS & MD Silver, 2016), and Alex Lanier (MS Gold) and Kaloyana Nalbantova (WS Bronze 2020). All players who announced themselves at U15 level and are now building their flourishing careers.

Spain will also host the upcoming 2022 European Championships in Madrid next month and are stepping up again to hold another key European event on the calendar. Badminton Europe’s General Secretary, Brian Agerbak, is sure the event will be a memorable one for the young players.

-I am once again delighted that we can work closely with the Spanish Badminton Federation to host another European Championships this year. The event is important to allow the future stars to express themselves and challenge other top talents from across the continent. They are the future of our sport. The location of the venue is ideal, a picturesque and vibrant city that is a perfect backdrop that will ensure an unforgettable experience for all participants.

A welcome challenge
President of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Azurmendi Ibarrola is excited by what 2022 brings.

-Spain is going to hold several European Championships this year, with the U15 in Ibiza as one of the outstanding ones. This is strong reinforcement for the Spanish Badminton Federation because it means that the European Confederation trusts in our organisational and management capacity. It gives us great satisfaction and a big challenge as well, but as we have already shown, we are fully capable to surpass expectations and we can only be grateful for the trust of Badminton Europe and the Spanish institutions in our work.
