Europe over and out

The World Tour Finals was not the tournament for either Viktor Axelsen or Anders Antonsen.

Axelsen was the first Dane to step on court on the last day of the group stages. He was facing Indonesia’s Ginting, who looked very strong in yesterday’s match against Chen Long. But after only 8 minutes, Axelsen retired at 13-6 due to his leg being in a bad condition.

As Chou Tien Chen lost to Chen Long just a few matches before Axelsen’s, he would not have made it through to the semifinals even with a win.

On his Instagram Axelsen wrote:

- This tournament has not at all been what I had hoped for. Practice had been good beforehand, but unfortunately, I haven’t realty been able to perform consistently these days. Toda, my leg was in a bad condition and I was unable to play. Wish you good luck Anthony Ginting. On a more positive note, I am confident that I will be back on court really soon and will be looking forward to 2020. Thanks once again for all your support.

Another loss

Anders Antonsen was facing Wang Tzu Wei in his last group stage match. Wang surprised yesterday when he bet Jonatan Christie in straight games. Antonsen needed a win in straight games to make it through to the semifinals, as Momota bet Christie in straight games earlier.

In the first game Antonsen was down with game point several times, but in the end, he managed to turn it around and win the first game 23-21. Second game turned out totally different. Wang had a big lead and was ahead 15-5 and took second game 21-12, sending Antonsen out of the World Tour Finals. Third game was won by Anders Antonsen 21-12.
