Kirsty Gilmour (Scotland) did not survive the first round of the 2018 Yonex All England Open Championships. In two games she went down for Busanan Ongbamrungphan (Thailand).

Gilmour just had a training session in Thailand when she saw the draw of the 2018 Yonex All England Open Championships: in the first round she would face her trainings partner of the last week.

- I was a bit disappointed. I consider her as a friend, Gilmour commented to Badminton Europe.

As for the match itself she stated:
- I tried a lot of new things in the match. Some things worked out and some did not. I was also impatient in the beginning, but when I was able to control that, it went better. It was just not good enough for the win.

Commonwealth Games next

Now Gilmour is going home and will work on the other aspects of the game. Next Wednesday she is already leaving to Australia in order to prepare for the Commonwealth Games.

- The Commonwealth Games are a huge deal in our country and I hope to do well over there. Not only me, but also our Team Scotland. We will go to Australia with the biggest delegation since ever.

Last Commonwealth Games she took the silver medal and Team Scotland had overall the best results over the whole event. However, that was in Glasgow, which was a home match for the delegation.

- I want to achieve at least the same results, but I know it will be though.
