Sara Peñalver accepts wild card for the 2018 European Championships

The Spanish women’s singles player will get the opportunity to play in front of her home crowd when the 2018 European Championships kicks off in Huelva, Spain, on 24 April.

Peñalver was very surprised when she heard the news of the wild card offer and is grateful to get this opportunity as her first year as a senior player.

- I am really grateful for having this amazing opportunity because it's my first year as a senior player, and, being able to play against the best European players in my country, she told Badminton Europe.

The 18-year-old Spaniard is joining the reigning champion Carolina Marin, Beatriz Corrales and Clara Azurmendi as the women’s singles that eligible to represent the host country of Spain.

Gaining experience
Peñalver was a part of the Spain’s squad at the 2018 European Women’s Team Championships which was organized in Kazan, last month. She has been offered this wild card as Badminton Europe wants to offer young, talented players from the hosting nation the chance to make experiences for a future in European badminton.

- I am going to play my best game and it's really nice to have the chance to gain a lot of experience for my future as a badminton senior player.

Badminton Europe will be presenting all the wild cards for the 2018 European Championships today on Tuesday. The wild card women's doubles will be announced at 2 PM (CET). Stay tuned on our website and social media for more.
