Thom Gicquel/ Delphine Delrue said that they will throw everything at the world number one pair in today’s quarterfinal.

Their opponents, Dechapol Puavaranukroh/ Sapsiree Taerattanachai are in terrific form. The French pair have nothing to lose and that is exactly how they played, finding themselves 12-8 up in the opening duel.

The in-form Thai pair stepped on the gas and surged back, but not with a late fightback from the French. It wasn’t enough to win the opener and the second game escaped them once their opponents got into a rhythm.

-We played well at the beginning of the first game. We followed the tactics we talked about before. They put more pressure on us and we lost our way a little bit. We fought well and missed some opportunities. We cannot miss these kinds of shots against them. It was really difficult after that, Delrue stated already reflecting on how they can improve.

Both Gicquel and Delrue’s faces lit up when discussing the upcoming tournaments and when the European Championships in Madrid were mentioned they smiled and exclaimed:

-We are going for gold in Madrid!
