Scotland and Spain are now ready for a group final tomorrow after today’s wins against Latvia and Portugal.

Scotland vs Latvia

Christopher Grimley and Ciara Torrance played the mixed doubles today for Scotland against Latvia’s Reinis Sefers and Liana Lencevica. Like yesterday, the Scots remained focused and in 20 minutes time, Grimley and Torrance added the first point for Scotland.

The singles, Joshua Apiliga and Kirsty Gilmour, followed the path and secured the win.

Julie Macpherson and Holly Newall ended the tie with a win and are now ready for a group final against Spain tomorrow.

- We expect it to be a very tough match. They are the seeds for this group, but I think we got a few chances. We obviously have Kirsty, she is the strongest person in this group, Julie Macpherson said.

- We expected Marin to be here, but when we found out she didn’t come, it completely opened up for us, Holly Newall added.

The team events are very important for Scotland and to qualify for the finals in Finland would mean a lot for them.

- It would mean a lot. We missed out two years ago in Moldova and four years ago, so we haven’t qualified for a while. But it will be a tough match tomorrow so everyone has to be ready, Julie Macpherson ended.

Spain vs Portugal

Spain was facing their neighbours Portugal in today’s tie. The men’s singles was between Luís Enrique Peñalver and Duarte Nuno Anjo. Peñalver continued Spain’s strong performance and secured the first point. Shortly after, Corrales added another point for Spain.

The men’s doubles was an intense one with the two pairs playing some of their absolute best. Bruno Carvalho and Tomas Nero won a close first game, but in the second game, Pablo Abian and Alberto Zapico were strong and sent the match into a decider. The Spaniards managed to keep their focus at 16-16 and they won the next five points and the match.

Azurmendi and Uslé, like the rest of the team, secured a win and are ready for the match against Scotland tomorrow.

- We know it will be a tough match for both teams, but we are looking forward to it. We are really anxious, but we are focused and will try our best tomorrow, Clara Azurmendi said.

In the mixed doubles, Bernardo Atilano and Mariana Chang were too strong for Alejandro Alcala and Paula Lopez, and they secured the only point for Portugal in this tie.

Spain and Scotland will play at 10am local time. At the same time, Portugal and Ukraine will play.
