Mariya Mitsova from Bulgaria has travelled to Jamaica to participate in the VI Jamaica International. 

In 2019, she won Hellas International in women’s singles as well as in mixed doubles. She also reached the final at the Bulgarian Open in women’s singles and the final at the Portuguese International in mixed doubles. In Jamaica, Mitsova will only participate in the women’s singles, where she is the 3/4 seed. 

- Honestly, I feel in good condition and believe I can win the title here, she said.

Chasing points

For many players the Olympic Games is the main goal for 2020, which is no different for Mitsova, but when travelling the world to collect points for the rankings, it is not only badminton experience she gets. 

- Of course, mainly I am chasing points as my goal for 2020 is to take part in the Olympic Games in the summer, but I am also gaining a lot of experience traveling to the other side of the world – not only sporting experience but life and travel experience in general, she stated. 

For now, Mitsova is qualified for the Olympic Games this summer, but with Linda Zetchiri only being 3 spots behind her, it is a close race between the two Bulgarian women about who is going to Tokyo in July.
