Applications for Badminton Europe´s 2020 Women in Badminton Scholarships are still in progress. The first deadline has passed, and we received applications for administrators attending the 2020 BEC Congress and umpires attending the 2020 BEC Umpire Courses. However, the second deadline is Tuesday, 3rd March 2020.

Therefore, we urge you to send in your applications or spread the word to your network. Klavs Andreassen, BEC Director and Gender Equity Commission Chair emphasises the great benefits of this cause when saying.

-Sport is one of the most powerful mediums to promote gender equity, as it can reach so many individuals from different backgrounds from all of the world. We know that Badminton can be a part of this growing movement to empower women and girls.

As we are all part of the badminton family, we have a role to play in all aspects of its development, as Andreassen continues.

-Badminton Europe and all of our Member Associations have an important responsibility to take action when it comes to gender equity – a basic human right of profound importance and fundamental to our shared values. Being proactive in the Women in Badminton Scholarship programme is a great way of helping us take more steps forward.

What is it?
The Gender Equity Commission awards a number of scholarships to our Member Associations, where women are under-represented. Badminton Europe is offering multiple scholarships of €500 per year. Klavs Andreassen explains that.

-The purpose of the Women in Badminton Scholarship programme is to increase female representation in activities within Badminton Europe where a lack of female participation has been identified.

It is still possible to apply for female coaches to attend the RSL BEC Summer School and for female Para athletes to participate in their first international tournament, while our scholarships for female administrators to participate in the BEC Congress and for female umpires to the BEC Umpire Courses are already assigned.

What to do next?
Member Associations are invited to nominate one person per category described below. The same person cannot be nominated in more than one category.

1. 2020 BEC Congress – Administrator Participation (Members' Forum, Annual Delegates Meeting, Award Gala Evening) - 3rd & 4th April 2020, Bucharest (ROU) - CLOSED
2. 2020 RSL BEC Summer School – Coach Participation (Coach Education Level 2) - 4th to 11th July 2020, Podcetrtek (SLO) – STILL OPEN
3. 2020 BEC Umpire Courses - Technical Official Participation – 4th March to 8th March 2020, Caldas De Rainha (POR) or- 2nd to 5th April 2020, Dubrovnik (CRO) or -  22nd to 25th October 2020, Glasgow (SCO) - CLOSED
4. 2020 Para Badminton International Tournaments - Player Participation - 2020 BWF Para Badminton International Tournament Calendar - STILL OPEN

Many Member Associations have sent in their applications already for the administrators to 2020 BEC Congress and umpires to 2020 BEC Umpire Courses. We thank you very much for the positive response.

There are a limited number of scholarships provided. Therefore, it is possible that the number of applications exceeds the number of available scholarships. The BEC Gender Equity Commission will decide on the scholarship recipient.

The second application deadline is Tuesday, 3rd March 2020 for:

-For coaches to 2020 RSL BEC Summer School
-For para players to 2020 BWF Para Badminton International Tournament
