Czech Republic delivered a solid performance beating Armenia on Saturday morning.
Czech Republic is seeded 5/8 for the team event at the 2019 European U17 Championships. The Czechs, who hosted the event two years ago, went on court for the first time and performed well against the team event rookies from Armenia.
Czech Republic did not drop a single game, winning 5-0.
Not the youngest anymore
First man on court for the Czech team was Jan Janostik. Alongside partner Tallulah Sharleen van Coppenolle he won in straight games, 21-7 21-1, against Svetlana Boyajyan/Erik Krbashyan.
- I felt fine on court even though it was the first match. I feel good, and I am very comfortable. I play good in the hall, Janostik said.
Two years ago he was the youngest player on the Czech U17 team. This year he is ready to lead the team to hunt for medals in Poland.
- The team has changed, but we still play the same style of badminton. I want to bring experience, and I wish all the young players the best of luck, Janostik mentioned.
Czech Republic will face Estonia, Faroe Islands, Wales and Armenia in the group stage.
