Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen have played their last ever match as a pair, before they will make new pairs with Mads Pieler Kolding and Mads Conrad-Pedersen respectively.
The Danes who have spent over a decade together have several achievements together including a silver medal at the London Olympic Games in 2012, as well as winning Gold at the 2017 and 2012 European Championships in Kolding and Kariskrona.
Not the swansong hoped for
The first game was quite tense to a point when eventually Boe/Mogensen lost to their Japanese opponents, Kamora/Sanoga (21-14).
The second was also quite close until the interval when Kamura/Sanoga took control and won the game 21-16 to take the match in straight games.
It’s time to be proud
After the match though, it was all about the last fifteen years for the legendary pair to talk about and Mathias Boe struggled to fit it into words.
- It is a bit difficult to talk in the time we have here, but before we started our partnership fifteen years ago we could never have hoped to reach this far, Mathias Boe told Badminton Europe.
- I think we might have just settled for one All England title or maybe just a super series title, he said.
With a lot of tournaments won across the board, Boe was in an emotional mood when reflecting on the last fifteen years.
- But now, we have won a lot and I think it is time to be pretty proud of what we have achieved.
- We are one of the most winning Men’s Doubles in history not only in Denmark but also in the world, Boe continued.
- We have a lot of great respect from our opponents and that is nice to have that. He added.
