Complete success for Spain in Wales

The Welsh International Championships took place at the end of November and completed in Sports National Centre of  Cardiff on Saturday, December 1st, with the finals of all events. 

The final of the Woman's Singles brought to the top the Spanish shuttler Clara Azurmendi, number seven seeded who played at a very high tempo this week.

The Spaniard managed to win her opponent number one seeded Gayle Mahulette from the Netherlands in three games with 21-12 at the deciding game. This was the third win in a row for Azurmendi against the Dutch. 

 In the Men's Singles, the title went to Spain as well. Luís Enrique Penalver, the top-seeded player met for first time in his career Alex Lane from England, who narrowly missed out on the finals with 21-19 22-20.

British domination in doubles

The final of the Mixed Doubles was partly an English affair. Matthew Clare and Victoria Williams from England won Max Flynn from England and Moa Sjoo from Sweden with 21-14  21-8. 

The Men’s Doubles put on a spectacle for the crowd. The Danish pair Andreas Søndergaard and Mikkel Stoffersen fought valiantly but lost from Max Flynn and Callum Hemming from England with 28-26 21-17.

In the Woman's Doubles, Julie Macpherson and Holly Newall from Scotland managed to get the better of the Danish pair Susan Ekelund and Line Fleischer, winning 22-20 21-12.

The action of European Badminton continues with qualifications of European Mixed Team Championship in various cities which begins on December 6th.
