Host team UKS Hubal Bialystok and fellow Poles Suwalki KB Litpol-Malow got the home challenge off to the perfect start today at the European Club Championships in Bialystok. Both teams were convincing 5-0 winners over their group opposition to sit top of their respective groups after day 1.
UKS Hubal Bialystok beats next years tournament hosts BC Jonglenster of Luxembourg without dropping a set with Adrian Dziolko (pictured below) leading from the front. Laura Sarosi won both her women’s doubles and mixed doubles in the 5-0 whitewash leaving Jonglenster with a lot to think about overnight.
Suwalki KB Litpol-Malow will be one of the outside favourites for a medal this week with strength right through their team. Like Bialystok they too blasted by Valmiera of Latvia 5-0 without dropping a set in all five matches.
Febby Angguni and Kieran Merrilees led the way in the singles with experienced pair Lukasz Moren and Michal Logosz easy winners in the men’s doubles. Scott Evans partnered up with veteran Kamilla Augustyn to take the mixed doubles and Augustyn got her second point alongside Monika Bienkowska in the women’s doubles.
- The team is motivated to do well here at home this week said veteran Michal Logosz. It is nice to play on home soil and today was a good start for us but there will be bigger matches to come.
