Marc Zwiebler has plenty to celebrate - and not just because the German number one reached the semifinals of the Swiss Open. The 2012 European champion handed No. 2 Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan a 21-23, 21-14, 21-19 (74 minutes) beating to advance to the Swiss Open semifinals for the first time in his career.

Chou Tien Chen can be called kind of a nemesis for Zwiebler as he lost the last three matches against the world number 8, two of them in the finals of the Bitburger Open (2012 and 2013).

His today’s reward? A meeting with Swedish No.1 Henri Hurskainen in the last four, who profits from an injury of Chinese shuttler Xue Song in today’s quarterfinals.

Re-match of the 2012 European Championships final

Zwiebler and Hurskainen, the world number 67, have a long history, having met eight times since 2009 - including the 2012 European Championships final in Karlskrona, when the 32 year old German won in straight games and became European Champion. The German star has won all eight previous matches in the rivalry.

An all-Danish affair in the men’s doubles semis

Unseeded Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup reached the semifinals of the 120.000 Dollars event in Basel, clinching a 21-17, 21-15 win over German youngsters Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel.

Astrup and Skaarup, the world number 25 duo from Denmark, created an upset in opening round when they eased past number 7 seeds, Kamura/Sonada of Japan, in straight games.

Astrup/Skaarup will now face their compatriots Mathias Christiansen/David Daugaard on Saturday for a place in the final.
