The Bulgarian players will not be able to participate in the individual European Junior Championships due to a positive Covid-19 test.

One person from the Bulgarian delegation was tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday. The second test also came back with a positive test result, and the Bulgarian players will in accordance with the Covid-19 protocol not be allowed to participate in the individual event.

Last week ahead of the 2020 European Junior Team Championships the Lithuanian team was withdrawn due to a one positive test for Covid-19. The team has been isolated at the Pajulahti Sports Institute since the positive test and has been well taken care of by the organizing committee of European Junior Championships.

- Of course, we are sad to see one more team being withdrawn from the championships, and we wish the person, who was tested positive, a speedy recovery. That being said I am happy that we can isolate the team and the players and give them the best possible support, before they can go back home to Bulgaria, Deputy General Secretary at Badminton Europe, Jimmy Andersen said.

Tested before the event
On Wednesday last week, after 72 hours in isolation, everybody at the European Junior Championships (players, entourage, technical officials, volunteers, Badminton Finland officials and Badminton Europe officials) were tested ahead of the tournament, and all incoming players, who only takes part in the individual event, went through the same procedure due to the Covid-19 protocol. 

Jimmy Andersen, who has been on site for the full event, is pleased to see that all teams and players are taking their precautions in the best possible way.

- I see people wearing masks at all times, keeping distance and being responsible. I hardly think there is much more we can do, and we are doing our outmost to keep everybody here safe, he stated.

The individual 2020 European Junior Championships begins today at 15.00 (CET)
