From 24-30 June, badminton will get underway at the European Games 2019 in Minsk. This time, Lisa Iversen from Italy revealed her expectations for the biggest multi-sports event in Europe in a ‘Question & Answer’ session.

Since 2014, Lisa Iversen is participating in international tournaments at senior level. Born and living in Milan, the 21-year old is qualified for the second edition of the European Games.

Together with Silvia Garino, she will be competing in the Women’s Doubles in Minsk.

Lisa, it will be your first participation in the European Games as well as in your first multi-sports event. What does it mean for you?

Iversen: It means a lot because we put a lot of efforts in qualifying. It will be an amazing experience to compete at an event with the whole Italian team. I am looking forward to being with the Italian athletes from different sports.

How important is it for the national badminton team of Italy to be part of the European Games?

Iversen: It is a great opportunity for all of us to compete at these European Games. It is also a demonstration that badminton is growing in Italy and that the Italian Badminton Federation is investing in its own future.

What are your goals in Minsk?

Iversen: We do not have a specific goal but since we have already played against almost all other pairs, we want to deliver better performances than the previous times. We want to show the improvements that we have made.

You and Silvia have a ritual before each match, “a fun game” that you always do. How exactly does that look like?

Iversen: We clap our hands in a very particular way, just before the start of each match. We have been doing that for more than five years now. Actually, we are quite scared of what might happen, if we forget to do it.

What are your personal long-term goals?

Iversen: Unfortunately, this will be my last high-level tournament because of personal reasons. Next season, I will still be training but focusing on helping the younger players of the national team. I want to share my experience with them.
