BC Chambly Oise have had a somewhat strained love affair with the European Club Championships. Many would go as far as to say they are the best club never to have won the event give the quality of their squad over the recent years.

This year the French champions have travelled to Bialystok with the bare minimum number of players due to commitments across the world at BWF world tour level and next week’s Mediterranean Games.

Led my Robert Mateusiak on this occasion the French have a very laid-back attitude and are here to enjoy the experience and take each match as it comes.

- It is a tough situation this year as we are without so many players due to other commitments. But maybe this will suit us as in previous years there was much pressure to win and we have shown even with this small team we have quality throughout. Said Mateusiak

Today the French eased past Latvian champions Valmiera BK without dropping a set with Soraya De Visch Eijbergan and Eetu Heino looking like they have the tools to win both singles points this week in any match up.

The big test for the French now comes tomorrow where they will play strong Polish outfit Suwalki KB Litpol-Malow to see who tops group 2.

Like Chambly Calvi Networks BC Milano have travelled without some seasoned Italian professionals. With Rosario Maddaloni on duty in Canada young Belgian Julien Carraggi (pictured above) has assumed men’s singles duties for last years hosts.

The Italian champions have brought in Estonian duo Helina Ruutel and Kristin Kuuba this year and both players will win more matches than they will loose this year in Bialystok.
