The hot favourites of the 2012 European Club Championships, which commenced today in the Hungarian city of Pecs, had a convincing start into the tournament. The Russian top team Primorye won its opening match 7-0 against Clube Che Lagoense from Portugal. Only in the two women's singles Lagoense was close in winning a game.

Also Denmarks representative Team Skælskør-Slagelse started with a comfortable 6-1 victory against Lagoense. The Danes are playing with the current European Champions Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba (Poland) and European top player Hans-Kristian Vittinghus (pictured), currently number 16 in the BWF world rankings. Vittinghus, who came almost straight from the Thomas & Uber Cup in Wuhan, China to join the Danish Champion. The effort to have a "jet-lagged" Vittinghus (see the video below) in the squad shows the ambition of Team Skælskør-Slagelse to win the first European Club Championships for Denmark since 2005.

Title holder and top seeded BC Duinwijck of the Netherlands did not drop a single game against Fiederball Scheffleng from Luxembourg. The home team Mulitalarm SE were putting up a great fight against CB Soderinsa Rinconada-Sevilla of Spain but losing 2-5 after a couple of close three-game clashes.

19 clubs from all over Europe have entered the 2012 European Club Championships in the Hungarian city of Pecs to crown the best club team of Europe. The finals will be played on Saturday.
