Embark on a journey with Badminton Europe as we look back at the last year, and the exciting year to come. But first, here are some of the best moments from 2023.
  • 14-18 February 2023 European Mixed Team Championship
The 2023 European Mixed Team Championship in Aire Sur La Lys proved to be an outstanding event which was among the best we’ve seen. The event culminated in an exceptionally close and thrilling finale between Denmark and France which ended in a 3-2 victory for Denmark, who once again became European Champions.
  • 26 June - 2 July Badminton at the 2023 European Games
In June/July 2023, the European Games were held in Tarnów, Poland. The so-called Olympic Games of Europe also served as extra points for the qualification to the Paris Olympics in 2024. Denmark ended with the highest rank with two gold medals won by Viktor Axelsen & Astrup/Rasmussen, one silver medal from Mia Blichfeldt and one bronze medal from Christiansen/Bøje. Tabeling/Piek won a gold medal for The Netherlands, Stoeva/Stoeva won one gold medal for Bulgaria, and Carolina Marin won a gold medal for Spain. Jille/Seinen also secured a silver medal for The Netherlands, thus securing them the second place. Christo Popov and Gicquel/Delrue each managed to get a silver medal, while Toma Popov, Lambert & Tran and The Popov brothers as a pair each got a bronze medal for which resulted in a number five spot for France.
  • 21-27 August TotalEnergies BWF World Championship 2023 Copenhagen
It is no surprise that the most significant European badminton memory of 2023 was the World Championship in Royal Arena, Copenhagen. The biggest badminton venue ever executed in Denmark, with more than 50.000 live spectators, the atmosphere, production, venue, and the level of badminton were extraordinary. Badminton Europe was there to cover the exhilarating event, interviewing players and catching all the exciting content for the fans at home. It was an amazing experience for us, the athletes, the spectators and it was truly an unforgettable event.

What an amazing year! Now Badminton Europe would like to present the events we look forward to in 2024.

  • 14-18 February - 2024 European Men's & Women's Team Championships
We’re excited to kick off this year with this much-anticipated tournament, after the qualifying rounds which were held earlier this month. It was hosted by eight different members in collaboration with local clubs. This now means that eight men’s and eight women’s national teams have qualified and been divided into groups that are ready to compete from 14-18 February. We are ecstatic to see who will prevail and become the new champions. Badminton Europe will provide exclusive and original content and coverage, so remember to follow us during the event.

If you missed it, you can see all the highlights here (Men's highlights, Women's highlights): and see who qualified here:

  • 11-14 September - 2024 European U15 Championships
Where do stars come from? Well, they don’t come out of nowhere they all start from somewhere. That is why Badminton Europe always looks forward to the U15 European Championship every other year.  Because this is where stars come from. Athletes such as Christo Popov, Alexandra Bøje, and Alex Lanier all had their initial success from the European U15 Championships. This year’s event will be taking place in Suwalki, Poland and Badminton Europe will also bring the latest content from the emerging European Badminton talent.
  • 27 July - 5 August - 2024 Summer Olympics
And of course, a 2024 list would not be complete without mentioning the Olympics. 172 of the absolute best badminton players throughout the world will meet in Paris to compete to become Olympic champions, the most prestigious title an athlete can hold. The 2020 Olympic winners were Viktor Axelsen, Lee Yang Wang Chi-lin, Chen Yufei, Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu and Wang Yilyu & Huang Dongping. We can’t wait to see who will achieve their dreams, and become Olympic Champions this time around. You can check the current Olympic rankings, and who is in a position to qualify here:
