Mathias Christiansen has officially been handed his sentence after he withdrew from the Olympics earlier this year due to failing to report his "whereabouts" on three different occasions.

If an athlete fails to report their whereabouts, it can result in a suspension of 1-2 years as punishment. However, since neither the Danish Doping Agency nor the Doping Tribunal ("Dopingnævnet") suspected Christiansen of actively trying to cheat, he received the lowest possible punishment.

"I am glad that there is now a resolution in the case, and that I have received the smallest possible suspension that could be given. I had no intention of cheating in any way, and the ruling reflects that the Doping Tribunal shares this view. Now, I will focus on my training and be as strong as possible when the suspension is over." said Mathias Christiansen to Badminton Denmark.

Mathias Christiansen has been training privately with the Peter Gade Academy, with permission from the Danish Anti-Doping Agency.
