The entertaining week in Almere, Netherlands for the Dutch Open came to end today, with a loud cheer from the home crowd.

In the mixed doubles, the top two seeds were vying to make it an all-English final. Chris and Gabrielle Adcock would have an opportunity to take steps towards regaining number one status in England, which is currently held by Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith.

However, the home favourites and third seeds Robin Tableing and Selena Piek had other ideas, beating them both to their first Dutch Open as a pair.

Positive badminton
Tabeling and Piek, winners of the Austrian Open and Brazilian International this year, continued their good form and performed well to the delight of the crowd. They never looked in doubt against the number one seeds Ellis and Smith in yesterday's semifinal, winning 21-17, 21-14.

In today's final, their opponents Chris and Gabrielle Adcock are familiar with the pressure surrounding a title deciding match, but it was in fact the Dutch duo who played positive badminton throughout, winning in two straight games, 21-17, 21-13. They had beaming smiles after the result, thanked the crowd and expressed their focus on the road to Tokyo.
