England’s Isaak Dalglish found a way past the world number 6 to win his SS6 men’s singles group and set up a great draw, and chance for a medal.
In Spain earlier this year, the young Englishman upset the natural order of things when he beat Hong Kong’s number 3 seed Wong Chun Yim, in the quarter final of the SS6 men’s singles to earn himself a bronze. Today in Dublin, England’s 4-Foot Hero did it again by besting Wong’s teammate Chu Man Kai in an astonishing 21-17 third game decider to prove that not all Superheroes wear capes.
Coming from behind in the match to claim the win, Dalglish has opened up the draw and given himself the choice position and potential route to a medal. Delighted with the win, he had this to say
“The Spanish result was a proud moment for me, and coming over to Ireland was another big opportunity. Our tactics were good and really made a difference today. This year is everything and I’ve got my sights set on making it into the top 8 so this tournament is already a great stepping stone.”

A tough day at the office elsewhere
Poland’s top SS6 female Maria Bartusz was on the wrong side of a 16-21, 21-18, 21-18 thriller against 15 year old American Katherine Valli, and now falls into the same half of the draw as the top seeded Peruvian Carmen Giuliana Poveda Flores who beat Bartusz’s teammate Daria Bujnicka 21-6, 21-4 today.
Maman Nurjaman and Hikmat Ramdani (INA) just had the edge over Jan-Niklas Pott and Pascal Wolter (GER) with a 14-21, 21-19, 21-16 win in the last match in the SL3-4 men’s doubles Group B. That puts the Germans into the top half of the draw with two strong Indonesian pairs
In the WH1-2 men’s doubles, Agus Budi Utomo and Agung Widodo (INA) managed to hold their nerves at the end of an epic 3 games late on today, beating Finland’s Thomas Puska and Timo Villanen 21-17, 18-21, 20-22
