Day two and the men’s singles draw has been very kind to the home players. Lucas Corvee, Lucas Claerbout and finally Thomas Rouxel rose to the home court challenge to deliver a hat trick on men’s singles wins.

Lucas Claerbout led the way taking down Rahul Yadav Chittaboina in two games to delight the home fans. Lucas Corvee followed but found himself embroiled in a dog fight with Kalle Koljonen of Finland. The Finn took the opening game 21-18 but clearly ran out of steam as Corvee turned the screw to win 21-16 in the deciding set

With two from two the pressure landed on Thomas Rouxel to deliver the full set of French men’s singles into the last 16. Rouxel had had to battle his demons beating Subhankar Dey in round one but found the resolve to win 21-15 in the third set.

In the second round Rouxel looked much more comfortable as he brushed by Gowda of India 21-14 21-7 to set up a probable last 16 tie with Swiss Open champion Sameer Verma.

-I certainly got a bit lucky in round 1 when I let a call by the umpire get to me a bit and that affected me for some points.

-After beating Dey I felt confident going into round two and once I figured my opponent out I felt extremely comfortable and enjoyed the game in front of our home fans.

Speaking about the successful day for French men’s singles Rouxel put it down to being at home and proof that everyone is working hard and improving

-Yes it has been a good day but all of us guys are working hard and of course we bring our best game to the courts when we play at home in France
