Three out of the five quarterfinals with European participation resulted in defeat on Friday, at 2018 YONEX German Open.

The English mixed doubles of Lauren Smith and Marcus Ellis where not able to keep up the nice performance from Thursday. Even though they latched on to Choi and Chae from Korea in the middle of the first game, Smith and Ellis never managed to pull away.

- I think in some patches we played quite well, but we went so far down in both sets, Ellis explained to Badminton Europe after their defeat.

 - They started to play more comfortably and then we are obviously questioning what we are doing, and obviously a really tough match for us and really frustrating after the performance we gave yesterday.

- We have to fight for every point
Sara Thygesen and Maiken Fruergaard from Denmark went on court with the hopes of reaching the German Open semifinals. But after a two game-defeat to the third seeds from Japan, Fukushima and Hirota, the two had a hard time hiding their disappointment.

- The forced errors that we made, we never got back from them. We have to work extremely hard for every point because they are just not making those mistakes. If they are ahead by three points we have to fight for those three points. We are not just going to get them served on a plate from them, Fruergaard said.

- We have a decent attack and we actually break through them many times, so there is of course a lot of positive things to take with us but also some negative, Thygesen added.
