Two days until the German Open in Muelheim an der Ruhr! This Super 300 tournament is the first tournament were the new service rule is implemented. Dutch doubles player Jacco Arends is looking forward to dealing with these new circumstances.

‘This tournament is more like a test for me of how the services will be judged by multiple umpires’ Arends stated to Badminton Europe.
‘Then I will try to find a way to put this new rule to my own hand’ Arends continued.

As for his matches in Muelheim an der Ruhr he mentioned:
‘I look at every tournament match by match. So I only know my first round matches.’

With Ruben Jille he will play against sixth seeded Japanese Pair Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko in men’s doubles. In mixed doubles he will face together with Selena Piek the expierenced/new talent combination Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Alexander Boje (Denmark).
‘Those are already interesting matches’ Arends commented.

Try to get back in top 20

Jacco Arends competed with Selena Piek at the Olympics of 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. Unfortunately, Piek got injured afterwards. A ranking drop was inevitable.

‘My goal for this season is to get back in top 20 of the world’ Arends stated. They are currently positioning the 28th place.

Besides the ranking goal, Arends has also put his eyes on Huelva in 50 days:
‘I would like to get medals at the European Championships’
Two years ago, he managed to win the bronze medal in mixed doubles with Selena Piek.
