Today was a very exciting day in Dubai. The final group matches were played, which decided who would proceed to semi-finals and who would not.

Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) had a very important task to do as he and Chou Tien Chen (Chinese Taipei) both had a last shot for the semi-finals. This resulted in a long match ending in the favour of Axelsen.

Also Axelsen agreed that his match was a hard-fought one. ‘Tough one today against Chou. Happy to be on the winning side!’ he stated on his facebook page.

In the semi-finals he has to play against Shi Yuqi (China), who he already faced during group stage, but lost. Hopefully the tables will be turned for the next match. ‘Ready for the semifinal tomorrow!’ Axelsen comments as he seems thrilled for a revenge.

Danish pairs lose their final group match

Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christinna Pedersen and Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen were already secured of a spot in the semi- final, but still needed to play their final group match. Unfortunately both of the pairs lost their final match and ended as nr 2 in their group.

Nevertheless they will get a fresh start in semi-finals. Juhl and Pedersen have to play against the group winners of group A, Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto (Japan).

Boe and Mogensen get a new chance to improve their game of today as they will face Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan (China) again in the semi-finals.

Adcocks end with a win

Unfortunately, the tournament has ended for Mads Conrad Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding (Denmark) and Chris and Gabrielle Adcock (England).

Petersen and Kolding had a small chance to still proceed to semi-finals, if they would win their final match. However, Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda (Japan) continued their good streak of the previous matches, which Petersen and Kolding could not keep up.

For Adcock and Adcock it was already certain that they would not go to the next round. They still managed to end the tournament on a positive note by beating Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing of Malaysia.
