Amazing Antrim

Athletes from countries across the globe came to the Antrim Forum in Northern Ireland for the 2nd Irish Para Badminton International last week. With over 150 entries it was set to be a busy week for the organizers and umpires.

Para-badminton makes its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. This means there were many potential Paralympians playing in this event. The tournament ran from the 22nd of June to the 26th of June. There was players´ classification and team managers´ meetings in the opening few days of the tournament. Classifiers from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) were present to ensure fairness in categorizing the players into the various sport classes.

On match days, many great matches were played across the wheelchair, standing and short stature class. Over 15 different countries secured medals at the event. The atmosphere in the hall was great all through the week with some exciting games being played.
 
A big thank you has to go to all of the organizers, umpires, referees and of course the volunteers at the event. They made the event an even bigger success than the previous year.
