Lee Chong Wei (33) eased past world number one shuttler Chen Long of China 21-13, 21-8 in 42 minutes in the Malaysia Open final to win his 11th title on Sunday. The last European stars chrashed out in the semifinals of the 550.000 Dollars event.
It was also an inspired Lee Chong Wei who beat European Champion Jan Ø. Jørgensen in the semifinals on Saturday. The Dane suffered a heavy defeat to the former world number one in just 35 minutes as Lee Chong Wei eased past Jørgensen in two games 21-7, 21-14 to advance to the final.
„Well, not much to say about the game. I have had a good run this week and I hoped for a better performance against Lee Chong Wei. The drift was strong and he was better at controlling the condition“, Jorgensen admitted on Facebook.
„He was simply too good - I fought with all I had but it was far from enough. Now its about getting some rest and prepare for next weeks Singapore Open - the last tournament on this tour.“
Fischer/Pedersen & Kolding/Conrad out in semis
Danish veteran duo of Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen dumped out of the semi-finals by world No 2 pair and former world champions Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia 21-18, 21-17. Their compatriots Mads Conrad and Mads Kolding lost the number four seeds Chai Bai and Hong Wei of China 24-26, 19-21.
In today's women's singles final, former world champion Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand moved past Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei, winning 21-14, 21-15. With this win, 21-year-old Ratchanok clinched her eighth victory out of 13 meetings against Tai.
Indonesian mixed doubles pair Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir upset the home fans by defeating Malaysia's Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying, winning the title 23-21, 13-21, 21-16.
