The city of Novi Sad gathered the best Balkan U17 players from seven countries. Balkan U17 Badminton Championships – Novi Sad 2015, as very important sports event for the Republic of Serbia, City of Novi Sad and Balkan region, gathered over 150 participants from seven countries – Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia.
High level of event management displayed by the Badminton Association of Serbia during this competition was made possible with the help and patronage of Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sports, City of Novi Sad, Museum and Tourist Organization of Novi Sad and with institutional support provided by the Olympic Committee of Serbia, Sport Association of Serbia, Balkan Badminton Association, Serbian Institute for Sport and Sports Medicine, Anti-doping Agency of Serbia and University Sports Federation of Serbia.
‘’Balkan Championships in Novi Sad totally justified its status – very important sports event for the Republic of Serbia and the City of Novi Sad. Representatives of both national and international institutions gave compliments to Badminton Association of Serbia for very successful management of this event. We have nicknamed this Balkan Championships a unique ‘’Mini European Championships’’ having in mind that some of the best European players and the very best representatives of participating countries in this age have been present and competing on this tournament. Fantastic competition conditions, very pleasant environment, satisfied participants from seven countries, numerous representatives of highest international badminton institutions, among them Mr. Murat Ozmekik, Vice President of Badminton Europe Confederation and President of Turkish Badminton Federation, Mr. Puzant Kassabian, President of Balkan Badminton Association, Mr. Ratko Galjer, President of Badminton Association of Croatia, Professor Aneta Janeva, in charge of Badminton Department on Bulgarian National Sport Academy located in Sofia (Bulgaria), winning bronze medal for Serbia in team and silver medal (Luka Milic and Natasa Pavlovic) for mixed double in individual competition – all of the above have made us very happy and very satisfied as hosts. I can send only the words of gratitude and acknowledgments to the Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sport and off-course to the Novi Sad City Council who gave their full support to organization of our strongest and largest regional sport event. I would like to congratulate all the medal winners – especially Turkey, which became Balkan U17 Team Champion and won three individual events and Bulgaria who also got two Balkan champions in mens singles and doubles. On behalf of all participating Balkan countries, I would like to thank Mr. Murat Ozmekik for the badminton equipment donation.’’ – this statement was made by Radomir Jovovic, President of the Executive Board of Badminton Association of Serbia.
The medal winners in the team event were: 1. Turkey – gold, 2. Bulgaria – silver, 3. Serbia and Romania – bronze. In the individual events Turkey won ladies singles, ladies doubles and mixed doubles and Bulgaria was Balkan champions in mens singles and mens doubles. Also, players from Romania, Croatia and Serbia won several silver and bronze medals in the individual events.
Besides mentioned institutional help provided by the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the City of Novi Sad, organization of this international event was also supported by ‘’Yonex’’, ‘’Tin sped Company’’, ‘’Lasta Company’’, ‘’Zlatiborac Company’’, ‘’Coca-Cola Company’’ and ‘’Nasa Koka Plus Company’’. Balkan U17 Championships was preceded by traditional International Badminton Training Camp for talented athletes.
