Akranes in Iceland is the host of this year´s Nordic Camp where 27 players and 7 coaches gathered for a four day camp which took place from 5th-8th August. The participants at the camp were from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
The camp was well organized with different activities tailored to the players´ needs. Trainings started at 9.00am every morning and ended around 9.00pm in the evenings. Players were exposed to a good variety of training sessions.
The on-court trainings:
•Front and rear court practice
•Offensive and Defensive
•Multi-shuttle session
•Coordination
•Match plays
The off court trainings:
•Psychology lectures - goal setting and pressure management
•Nutrition lectures
•Opponent analysis
Apart from the training sessions for the players, a coaching course also took place on site during the camp. The course was led by Head Coach James Barclay from England. All countries had one coach representative except for Iceland with three coaches.
In general, the participants felt that the camp was a great success both for the participants and the coaches. The organizers hope that this camp will help the players to become better badminton players although there were some tough days during the camp.
On top of the above mentioned activities, participants had the opportunity to enjoy the nature in Akranes. They visited several different places such as Grabrok, a very old volcano situated at Borgarfjordur, the Glenni waterfall, the Paradise Hollow pond and the Blue Lagoon.
