Richard Vaughan from Wales and John Moody from New Zealand are the two top seeded players in the men’s singles event, but many other players will make an effort to be crowned the champion of the Irish International Championships. Players like Jan Frohlich from the Czech Republic and especially the local hero, Scott Evans, will try to get valuable points for the World Ranking this week. But can anyone overcome the man to beat in the moment, Germany’s Marc Zwiebler? Only time will show.
Japan’s Kaori Mori is the big favourite in the women’s singles event. The Japanese player who is currently ranked 23 in the World will start out against France’s Elisa Chanteur. Other possible winners could be England’s Elisabeth Cann or Scotland’s Susan Hughes who are likely to run into each other in the semi final on Saturday. The local hope, Chloe Magee, has a tough opener when she plays the eighth seeded Ana Moura from Portugal.
The former World Champion Howard Bach from USA is dominating the seeding in the doubles categories, where he has received two top seedings. Together with Khan Bob Malaythong and Eva Lee he is top seeded in men’s doubles and mixed doubles respectively. Eva Lee is also seeded to reach the final in women’s doubles together with Mesinee Mangkalakiri, but they have to settle for second spot as the top seeding went to the French combination Elodie Eymard and Weny Rahmawati.
