Fantastic new badminton hall opened in Portugal

Joao MatosThe Portuguese Badminton Federation proudly opened their new High Performance Centre in Caldas da Rainha last weekend. Badminton Europe’s President Tom Bacher was in attendance at the opening ceremony.  Vice-President Joao Matos who is also the President of the Portuguese Badminton Federation hosted the inauguration.

Important guests at the opening ceremony included -

Secretary of State for Youth and Sport – Dr. Laurentino Dias;
Town Hall Mayor – Dr. Fernando Costa;
Olympic Committee President – Vicente Moura;
Badminton Europe President – Tom Bacher;
Badminton Europe Vice-President and FiBA President – Alberto Migletta;
Badminton Europe Honorary Vice-President – Gisela Hoffmann;
 
Tom Bacher and Joao MatosThe High Performance Centre for Badminton in Caldas da Rainha is close to the headquarters of the Portuguese Badminton Federation which has lodging facilities for 40 people.guests
 
The new centre had an investment of 4,5 million euros, and contains a fully equipped gym, restaurant and meeting rooms.
 
The hall will be the new home of the Portuguese International Championships. This year’s edition takes place from 29 April – 2 May 2010.
