With less than two months left until the 2023 European Mixed Team Championships, Europe’s top eight teams are now almost ready for the biggest challenge in the continent.

After winning their first-ever medal in the European Mixed Team Championships last year, France are almost ready to welcome the top eight European teams — including themselves as hosts — to Aire-sur-la-Lys, a town in northern France. Matches will be played at the Complexe Sportif Régional.

The European Mixed Team Championships are one of Europe’s biggest badminton events, taking place every two years, with its first edition dating back to 1972. With the last edition in Finland still happening during the times with COVID-19 restrictions, we’re now back to normal with a full on festival of badminton.

Who will be the 2023 champion?
This year’s edition will be a fierce and exciting fight for the title amongst Europe’s best. Reigning champions Denmark will try and defend their title, having won it already a total of 18 times. France, a powerful team who showed their strengths last year by claiming the silver, will have the advantage of playing on home soil with the support of the home crowd. Germany, who has already won eight medals in this competition, automatically qualified by being the top seeded team.

Last weekend in the qualification stage, we learnt of the other five teams joining them. Qualifying from Group 1, England has historically done quite well in this competition, having won a total of 23 medals. We have to go back two editions for their last one, and they are ready to fight for a spot on the podium again.

The Netherlands are no strangers either to winning in the European Mixed Team Championships and have also qualified to fight in the final stage. Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Scotland are the three other teams that will be in France for the main show, having shown in their respective groups that they are here to win.

Five days of great badminton
To claim the title, the teams will have to get past three days of group matches, while in the following two days the top teams will fight in the semifinals and finals. Find below the full programme of the 2023 European Mixed Team Championships.
