Germany wins gold twice at the Malta International

At the Malta International 2022 presented by VICTOR, players from nine European and two Asian countries made it to the podium on Sunday, December 11.

Ade Resky Dwicahyo, number one seeded, from Azerbaijan, faced the Bulgarian Dimitar Yanakiev in the longest match of the final day. After 64 minutes of three intense games, Dwicahyo won 21-19, 17-21, 21-14. 

The men’s singles winner, together with Azmy Qowimuramadhoni, lost in men’s doubles against the German pair Jarne Schlevoigt and Nikolaj Stupplich 21-19 21-15. Malik Bourakkadi and Leona Michalski, also from Germany, faced Brian Wassink and Alyssa Tirtosentono (Netherlands) in the mixed doubles final. The Germans started strong in the first game but lost 21-13 in the second. In the deciding third game, Bourakkadi/Michalski guaranteed their first future series title ever by winning 16-21.  

In women’s singles, Gabriela Mellani Moningka (Indonesia) faced Antonia Schaller from Germany, and won the title 21-11 21-12. In the women's doubles final, Julia Meyer and Leona Michalski (Germany) played against the Dutch pair Kirsten De Wit/ Alyssa Tirtosentono. Germany got second place once again, as Wit and Tirtosentono won 21-16 21-16 in just 20 minutes. Check all results here
