Denmark bags four out of five golds in the Czech Open, including a bronze for CoE player Irina Amalie Andersen.
The 2022 edition of the Czech Open closed with a finals day with plenty of Chinese Taipei finalists as in many of the other European Circuit tournaments, but Denmark stood up to the successful nation by taking four out of the five titles in Prague.
It had been 22 years since Denmark achieved such results — this being the third time that they win four golds in the same edition. Victor Svendsen, top seeded, won the men’s singles gold and Amalie Schulz, third seeded, did the same in women’s singles.
Schulz actually bagged a total of two golds by also becoming the women’s doubles champion with Christine Busch, who would also go on to win the mixed doubles final with Mads Vestergaard. Denmark won three more medals in addition to the four golds, including one bronze from Centre of Excellence player Irina Amalie Andersen.
This year, the Czech Open didn’t get to have any of the national players on the podium. Jan Louda, the 2021 champion, reached the quarterfinals and so did CoE player Katerina Tomalova as well as Jaromir Janacek/ Tomáš Švejda.
