The 73th edition of the Dutch Open is underway, with the qualification rounds already over. All matches will be streamed on www.badmintoneurope.tv.

Starting this Wednesday, Almere is hosting the 73th edition of the Dutch Open until October 16. We already knew most names of those that we would get to see in the main draw, but there were still some to be decided.

Today was mainly about the qualification rounds, with players from three events out of five – men’s singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles – competing for the chance to play in the tournament’s main draw. Fans also got to enjoy some matches from the main draw already today, as eight of these took place Wednesday evening.

In men’s singles, we now know that Germany’s Fabian Roth will be playing in the main draw tomorrow after winning in straight games both against Senne Houthoofd, Belgium, and Anirudh Janardhanan, India. Aram Mahmoud, Netherlands, has also won both of his matches and advanced to the main draw.

The women’s singles main draw is already being left with almost no empty spots too. Miranda Wilson from Germany, sixth-seeded in the qualification draw, has successfully won two matches and will be playing against France’s Yaelle Hoyaux tomorrow. Another German player joined her in the main draw; Ann-Kathrin Spoeri has defeated Jekaterina Romanova from Latvia and Dounia Pelupessy from Switzerland. She will face Edith Urell from Sweden tomorrow.

Just like the European Circuit in the last few months, the mixed doubles qualification is full of Chinese Taipei players that have secured their spot in the main draw after winning today. However, there are two pairs from the host country that will also have their chance in the main draw - Andy Buijk/ Kelly Van Buiten and Fin Achtoven/ Iris Van Leijsen have been promoted to the main draw.

The main draw's first round in mixed doubles had some ups and downs for the hosting country so far: While the top-seeded Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek won their first round against Joshua Magee and Moya Ryan 21-13 21-10 the second seeded Dutch pair took an early loss today. Ties van der Lecq and Debora Jille could not overcome Mads Verstergaard and Christine Busch from Denmark and lost 19-21 18-21.
