The reigning champion Denmark will take on the top-seeded French team in tomorrow’s finals of the European Junior Team Championships 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia.

On their way into the finals, the Danes bet England 3-0 in the quarterfinals before winning over Ukraine 3-1 in the semifinals. The Ukrainian team, which kicked out Germany 3-0 in the quarterfinals before, could only win the women’s singles against a strong Danish side.

France faced Sweden in the quarterfinals and was able to win the first two matches very clearly. Sweden bounced back with Elin Öhling winning the women’s single 10-21, 21-10, 21-13. In men’s doubles, Sweden also managed to take the first game but France fought back and took a 3-1 win to reach the semifinals.

Here they met the Spanish team, which was able to beat the Czech Republic in a thrilling quarterfinal. Both teams went back and forth and after three hours of play, it all came down to the fifth and last game of the day. Here the French teams had more left in the tank and took the 3-2 win, sending them to the final of the team competition.

French’s Mael Cattoen, who won the deciding men’s double with his partner Lucas Renoir, is looking forward to the clash with Denmark: “We have a good team and I think we can beat Denmark. It’s obviously going to be hard, but I think we can do it”.
